Zoodoo Zoo is located in the beautiful Coal River Valley, situated just outside of the historic town of Richmond.
Zoos and aquariums play a critical role in building diverse and sustainable futures for people and nature. All members of our crew work towards the zoo achieving this common goal by contributing towards the overall success of the organization.
We are currently looking to recruit a Maintenance Officer to join the Zoodoo Zoo team.
Position will be on a casual basis with commencement as soon as possible. Payrates to align with the Amusement & Events Award Grade 3 Ordinary hourly rate $32.25 Sunday rate $45.15 Public holiday rate $70.95

We couldn’t do it without our valued volunteers. Every year, our volunteers generously contribute over 10,000 hours of service, becoming vital members of the zoo team.
Volunteering at Zoodoo
Volunteering at Zoodoo is a wonderful opportunity to make a lasting contribution to our important wildlife conservation efforts while helping care for the zoo’s unique animal residents. Volunteers will also experience incredible moments, make new friends, and create lifelong memories.
Our volunteers love the outdoors, animals, and interacting with people. Whether in front of the public or behind the scenes, they contribute in a variety of roles. Often, volunteers are the public face of the zoo, acting as key connectors between guests and our animal and conservation stories.
Volunteer Requirements:
- Must be 16 years of age or older to apply.
- Commit to a minimum of 4-6 hours per week for 10 weeks, so you can stay engaged and up to date with our organisation.
- Have your own email address and use our online roster system, and receive communication updates.
- Complete our volunteer training and agree to act in line with our values, policies, and procedures.
- We are looking for passionate, committed, curious, adaptable, positive, and cheerful individuals who want to serve our organisation as volunteers.
Volunteer Opportunities:
- Animal Nutrition Centre Volunteers: Assist with preparing animal diets and learn about the daily feeding routines of different animals.
- Conservation Ambassadors: Educate guests about animals, natural history, and conservation efforts, acting as the bridge between the zoo and visitors.
- Special Project Volunteers: Use your specialised skills (e.g. welding, carpentry, or electrical work) to assist with various projects.
- Enrichment: Create meaningful and exciting Enrichment opportunities for our animals.
- Special Event Volunteers: Help organise and staff events, providing guest services and running activities.
- Keeper Aide Volunteers: Work alongside keeper to care for animals and support daily tasks that impact their health and wellbeing.
Steps to Join the Zoodoo Volunteer Team:
1. Book and attend an induction and training session held on Fridays and Saturdays.
2. Commit to volunteering 4-6 hours per week.

Zoodoo Pay it Forward for Variety
All kids should be able to be just that – kids. No matter their ability or background.
Each year, hundreds of Tassie children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with disability, recieve support from Variety Tasmania when they need it most.
